International Men's Day is celebrated today. It is a great opportunity to take part in a global conversation about manhood, masculinity and men's issues. We had a chat with our young Groundsman Josh and spoke about what the day means to him...

"It's important to highlight that talking to other guys can be so helpful. My Dad has always been a constant role model in my life. He's always been there to give financial advice or anything really."

"He's always told me to treat people how you would want to be treated, you never know what other people are going through."

#InternationalMensDay #MagpiesStaff
πŸ’β€β™€οΈ 73% of our workforce are female, well above the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported figure in 2020 of almost 50%. Furthermore, 50% of our Senior Management team are female. #YehTheGirls #MagpiesStaff
International Men's Day, celebrated annually on November 19, is an occasion dedicated to honouring the contributions, achievements, and challenges of men worldwide. We asked our General Manager, Mitch what this day means to him...

"It's important to celebrate and raise awareness and one of the biggest challenges, being the stigma surrounding mental health. Men are often socialised to suppress emotions, which can lead to a lack of help-seeking behaviour. Raising awareness that it's normal to reach out if required, rather than the old school analogy of 'toughen up' is important to promote."

"Prioritising mental and emotional well-being is something that’s become increasingly important to me, and a big part of that is regular exercise, especially going to the gym. I find that fitness provides a structured way to relieve stress, boost mood, and clear my mind."

#InternationalMensDay #MagpiesStaff
International Men's Day, observed every year on November 19, is a day to celebrate the contributions, achievements, and challenges faced by men across the globe. This morning we sat down with our Sous Chef, Will and discussed what it was like raising 2 boys and the importance of celebrating this day...

"I've always said to my boys, find something you love doing and you'll never work a day in your life."

"Work ethic is important, and I've always just encouraged them to be happy doing whatever they decide to do in life. They are adults now and don't live in Mackay, but I always try and talk to them regularly on the phone, they know they can ring me whenever they need to chat."

#InternationalMensDay #MagpiesStaff
International Men's Day is marked annually on November 19. The day celebrates the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities and aims to raise awareness of men's wellbeing. Magpies Sport, Community & Customer Relations Manager, Brian 'Butch' highlights the importance of passing on values and principles to the younger generations...

"This is a great time to be young, there are so many possibilities, develop a willingness to try things. Success or failure only comes after an attempt and either way you learn."

"Have some ambition, find the courage to take action. Life's good, don't sit on the sidelines, go get amongst it."

Paul has been OUT STANDING in his field for 20 years (get the pun 🀣).

Starting in 2004 at 24 years old, fresh from his Greenkeeping qualification, Paul took on the responsibility of managing the grounds of multi-sport facility. His vision and dedication have transformed our grounds into something special. From working in during our sweltering summers, facing floods, cyclones, and a pandemic, to hosting national competitions. Paul has risen to every challenge. His leadership and commitment to excellence have put our Magpies grounds on the map πŸ–€

Some interesting facts Paul shared with us today since he has been at Magpies:
🌱 He has gone through 10,400 litres of paint = 3,400 km of line marking
🌱 100 meters high of grass has been cut
🌱 Over 8,000 cubic meters of top-dressing sand = 800 truck loads
🌱 Irrigation, over 800 million litres of water!

Thank you for all your hard work Paul, we can't wait to see where you take our fields in the next 20 years. #MagpiesStaff #SportingFields #GroundsKeeper
