WRITING YOUR OWN VOWS

It’s easy to say I love you but when you have to explain why that can get tricky. Sometimes there are no words that can explain it and sometimes there are too many. Writing your own vows can be daunting for this very reason.

I know that when it came time to put my feelings to paper I had no idea where to start or end. Thinking about saying my most raw feelings of love in front of my friends and family just made it that bit worse. Eventually when I sat down to write them it came easy. I broke it down like a writing a book, beginning, middle and ending.

So here is a little breakdown which will hopefully make writing your vows that little bit easier.

BEGINNING

This part was easy. Say something about the beginning of your relationship. How you felt when you first seen them or met them, your first date or even the first time you knew you were in love. You don’t have to go into crazy detail, keep it simple.

MIDDLE

The middle is where you usually say something about how your feelings has developed. How its changed from then to now. Then move on to how you see your future to be. Why you have chosen to spend the rest of your life with this person.

ENDING

This is where you make your vows/promises. It could be a good idea to talk to one another about this part beforehand. Discuss how many vows you would like to make to each other. Depending on how long you want your vows to go for will change the amount of vows you want to make. An average amount would be around 3-5 vows.

End your vows with a phrase you say to each other. For me it was Forever and Always but everyone is different. If you don’t have one say I love you.

Overall your vows don’t need to be serious, break it up with some humour or quirks, be who you are. I believe those are the best vows and it helps with all the nerves too!
