Congratulations to Aston Paganoni on receiving a Magpies Local Sporting Champion Grant!🏏

Aston’s impressive journey in field and indoor hockey continues to reach new heights. In 2023, he was selected for the Queensland U13 Boys Outdoor Team (Newcastle) and Indoor Team (Canberra).

In 2024, Aston again earned Queensland selection for both Indoor and Outdoor teams - this time competing in Canberra and Perth - and was proudly named Co-Captain of the Indoor squad.

He also made the Capricornia School Hockey team and, from his standout performance in Perth, was 1 of only 8 players invited to trial for the Queensland U16 State Squad. He has since been selected as a Shadow Player for the 2025 QLD U16 team.

The Magpies Grant supported Aston and his family with costs associated with attending the Hockey Australia U14 Indoor Championships, covering expenses such as registration, flights, and accommodation.

Well done, Aston - your dedication and talent continue to shine! #MagpiesCommunity #MagpiesCommunityGrants #LocalSportingChampion #HockeyPro

Congratulations to The Neighbourhood Hub on receiving a Magpies Thriving Communities Grant!

As Mackay’s largest locally managed community organisation, The Neighbourhood Hub supports over 14,000 people annually across two centres. With 11 vital programs - including family support, financial counselling, migrant support, and food assistance - the Hub is a pillar of connection for those facing hardship or social isolation.

In 2024 alone, the Hub served over 7,800 people with food support, provided 2,340 hot meals, and helped 24 migrants get closer to their Queensland driver’s license.

With the help of this grant, they’ll be purchasing an outdoor chess set for their 4 George Street backyard- a welcoming space where all ages can connect, play, and build lasting social ties.

We’re proud to support a project that brings people together through fun, strategy, and community spirit. 🖤#ThrivingCommunitiesGrant #MagpiesCommunityGrants #MagpiesCommunity

Lives Lived Well is a community-based nonprofit supporting individuals affected by alcohol and drug addiction. Their Day Program offers structured, evidence-based treatment in a supportive environment, helping clients on their journey to recovery through counselling, detox support, and therapeutic activities.

❤️💚 This morning, we proudly presented a $4,662 donation to Sarina JRL who recently lost everything when a horror fire destroyed their sports shed.

Thank you to our members for their assistance - $2 from every new and renewed Magpies membership in March was donated, plus an additional $1,000 from Magpies. We hope this helps Sarina JRL rebuild and replace what was lost in the fire to get their 350+ young players back to playing footy!

Thanks to @ClubsQueensland for facilitating.

♟Congratulations to Pascoe Gould on receiving a Local Sporting Champion Grant!

Pascoe recently competed at the 2024 Queensland Chess Inter-School State Finals after qualifying through a series of three competitions held in Mackay earlier this year. Representing @stpatsmackay, Pascoe’s team placed second overall - securing their spot at the state championships.

A dedicated chess player, Pascoe practices weekly at home and during school lunch breaks. At the state finals, he won 5 out of 6 games and was named the Secondary Open Regional Board 2 Winner. His longest game lasted an impressive 2 hours and 50 minutes!

The Magpies Community Grant helped support Pascoe and his family by contributing to the costs of attending the tournament, including flights to Brisbane and accommodation. The 2 event was a fantastic opportunity to showcase his skills on the state stage.

Well done, Pascoe!
