Chairman
Jason was first exposed to Magpies when his sons started playing Soccer with Magpies Football Club 20 years ago. As a previous hospitality business owner and current local business owner, Jason has provided valuable contributions to Magpies Board as a director from 2009 to 2018 and again this year. Jason is particularly passionate about our sporting facilities, seeing our club fruition into the best Sporting Club in Mackay and ensuring Magpies financial wellbeing.
Vice Chairman
Paul has been a Magpies stalwart since becoming a Magpies Junior Rugby League (JRL) Coach in 2008. He joined the JRL committee in 2011 and was elected president in 2013, remaining until 2020. He then continued on as Vice President of JRL, as well as managing Magpies Senior Rugby League teams. Paul’s involvement didn’t end with Rugby League, he also was a Magpies Junior Cricket Club coach and Magpies Netball Club manager. In 2018 he was presented with life membership of Magpies Junior Rugby League Club, and also awarded the prestigious Magpie of the Year in that same year. Whether it be work or socially, Paul is approachable and prides himself on providing leadership and developing relationships to achieve desired outcomes and success. Paul is extremely proud of the social aspect of our club along with our excellent sporting facilities, that makes Magpies second to none in Mackay. He aims to continue to provide our members with an exceptional experience and continued outstanding success as the best community sporting club in Mackay.
Director
Ken was first involved with Magpies in 1972 as a Rugby League junior and he continued through to seniors in 1993. When his sons started playing, he took on coaching, committee and executive roles. Ken is a Foundation and Honorary life member of Magpies Sporting Club and a life member of both Junior and Senior Magpies Rugby League Clubs. He was awarded 2011 Magpie of the Year and was appointed director in 2019.
Director
Emma is a HR professional, who is passionate about getting the best out of people within an organisation. Emma comes from a legal and safety focused background and has a passion for ensuring that Magpies is operating from a best practice point of view in all areas, without sacrificing visitor experience. Emma culminates this passion with her love for sports and entertainment, making Magpies a perfect home.
Emma believes in the value that Magpies provides to our sporting affiliates, members and the wider community and is proud to serve a club with such a community and member focus.
Director
Becky’s introduction to the club started in 2014 as a player for Magpies Netball Club. In 2019 she joined the Magpies Netball Executive Committee as Assistant Treasurer, then took on the role of Treasurer in 2020 and beyond. Her focus is to align Magpies Netball Clubs goals with the financial resources available, create budgets and seek sponsorship to implement these goals. The strong connection between Magpies Sporting Club and the affiliate clubs provides grass root connections to community through sport and Becky would like to focus her attention on strengthening this further along with the connections between the affiliates. Becky’s work life focuses on integrating business systems through creating structure in client’s businesses.
Director
Graham brings over 35 years of experience in hospitality management, having held senior roles across a number of organisations since 1970. He was first involved with Magpies at a board level, as a landlord’s representative and then served as a Director from 2010-2018. Graham is committed to supporting the club’s redevelopment and future growth. He values Magpies as a welcoming, family-oriented organisation with a knowledgeable and friendly team. Graham looks forward to working with the board to ensure ongoing success, always remembering that ‘there are no strangers at Magpies Sporting Club—only friends you haven’t met.’
Director
Michael has been involved with Magpies Junior Soccer for over 20 years, starting as a parent who coached his sons and their teams. Over the years, he served on the soccer committee. Michael served on the Magpie’s board for 13 years and stepped down at the end of 2018. He has also worked in nearly every department of the club for four years. With his inside knowledge and understanding of how Magpies operates, Michael is passionate about making a positive impact on both our guests and staff. His goal is to use this experience to help make Magpies the best club in Mackay.
